Eri puolilla maailmaa maat haluavat l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 vaihtoehtoisia ratkaisuja, jotka v\u00e4hent\u00e4v\u00e4t kaatopaikoille sijoitettavan j\u00e4tteen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4. Yksi t\u00e4llainen suosittu ratkaisu on j\u00e4tteenpolttolaitokset. N\u00e4iss\u00e4 laitoksissa kierr\u00e4tt\u00e4m\u00e4t\u00f6n j\u00e4te voidaan muuntaa s\u00e4hk\u00f6ksi ja l\u00e4mm\u00f6ksi, mik\u00e4 auttaa v\u00e4hent\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n riippuvuutta fossiilisista polttoaineista ja pienent\u00e4\u00e4 samalla ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jalanj\u00e4lke\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>J\u00e4tteest\u00e4 energiaa, lyhyesti WTE, on prosessi, jossa j\u00e4te muutetaan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kelpoiseksi energiaksi. Niit\u00e4 k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n yleisimmin kiinteiden j\u00e4tteiden, kuten l\u00e4\u00e4ke- ja vaarallisten j\u00e4tteiden, teollisuuslietteen ja muiden palavien materiaalien m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n v\u00e4hent\u00e4miseen. Laitoksella voidaan lis\u00e4t\u00e4 energiatehokkuutta ja samalla v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 saastumista ja t\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ykset.<\/p>\n<p>Polttoa pidet\u00e4\u00e4n yhten\u00e4 tehokkaimmista tavoista h\u00e4vitt\u00e4\u00e4 kierr\u00e4tykseen kelpaamatonta j\u00e4tett\u00e4, koska se v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 varastointiin tarvittavaa tilaa jopa 90 prosenttia ja v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 huomattavasti kaatopaikkojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4, koska se pystyy polttamaan roskat korkeissa l\u00e4mp\u00f6tiloissa. Saatavilla on useita erilaisia polttolaitoksia: massapolttoj\u00e4rjestelmi\u00e4, j\u00e4tteist\u00e4 saatavan polttoaineen (RDF) j\u00e4rjestelmi\u00e4, rinnakkaispolttolaitoksia, sementtiuunij\u00e4rjestelmi\u00e4 ja pyrolyysij\u00e4rjestelmi\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Massapolttoj\u00e4rjestelmiss\u00e4 k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n avointa polttokammiota, jossa materiaalit poltetaan suurina erin\u00e4 ennen kuin ne vapautuvat ilmap\u00e4\u00e4st\u00f6ihin pesureiden tai suodattimien kautta, jotka poistavat savukaasuista molekyylej\u00e4, jotka voivat olla haitallisia ep\u00e4puhtauksia. RDF-j\u00e4rjestelmiss\u00e4 kiinte\u00e4 yhdyskuntaj\u00e4te muutetaan polttokelpoiseksi polttoaineeksi, jota voidaan sitten polttaa voimalaitoksissa tai l\u00e4mp\u00f6laitoksissa l\u00e4mm\u00f6ntuotantoa tai s\u00e4hk\u00f6ntuotantoa varten ilman, ett\u00e4 savua tai hajuja syntyy. Ensinn\u00e4kin ne tarjoavat paljon tehokkaamman tavan h\u00e4vitt\u00e4\u00e4 kierr\u00e4tykseen kelpaamattomat j\u00e4tteet. Sen sijaan, ett\u00e4 j\u00e4tteenpolttolaitos veisi tilaa kaatopaikoilta, se voi pelkist\u00e4\u00e4 n\u00e4m\u00e4 materiaalit tuhkaksi, joka sitten h\u00e4vitet\u00e4\u00e4n vastuullisesti ja mahdollisimman v\u00e4h\u00e4n ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4 kuormittaen. Nykyaikaisella tekniikalla on mahdollista muuntaa osa j\u00e4tteenpoltosta syntyv\u00e4st\u00e4 l\u00e4mm\u00f6st\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6ksi, jota voidaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kodeissa ja yrityksiss\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 auttaa v\u00e4hent\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n riippuvuutta fossiilisista polttoaineista ja tarjoaa vaihtoehtoisen uusiutuvan energial\u00e4hteen yhteis\u00f6ille, jotka eiv\u00e4t voi k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 perinteisi\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6verkkoja.<\/p>\n<p>Lis\u00e4ksi n\u00e4m\u00e4 laitokset voivat auttaa parantamaan ilmanlaatua, koska ne pystyv\u00e4t suodattamaan ep\u00e4puhtauksia p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00f6ist\u00e4 ennen kuin ne vapautuvat takaisin ilmakeh\u00e4\u00e4n.
